How it works

Set it once. Then forget about it.

Willpower runs out. A place doesn't. Tie your apps to where you are and the decision is already made.

  1. Draw a zone

    Put a circle around work, home, the gym or the library. As small as a building or as big as a city.

  2. Choose its apps and a rule

    Pick the apps the zone controls, then decide whether they're blocked there or only allowed there.

  3. Walk in, walk out

    Your iPhone notices when you arrive and leave, and opens or closes those apps for you, even when Slowcation is closed.

Every zone follows one of two rules. Apps you haven't put in a zone are never touched.

The zone's apps stay closed for as long as you're in it. Step outside and they open again.

Allowed inside, and nowhere else.

The zone's apps open while you're in it and stay blocked everywhere else, including when your location isn't known.

Games that only work at home. Email that only works at work.

Buddies

Need a break? That's allowed.

Pause blocking yourself after a short cooldown. Or make it stick: let a friend hold the key, so only their code opens your apps.

  • You ask, they decide. Send a request for the time you need. Your buddy sends back a code in one tap.
  • Codes can't be faked. Each one is signed on your buddy's phone, works once, only for you, and expires after 30 minutes.
  • No accounts. Buddies swap messages over any chat app, or scan each other's QR codes when they're together.

Schedules

Give a zone working hours. Outside them, the rule simply doesn't apply.

Blanket ban

Some apps shouldn't open anywhere. Block them everywhere, all the time.

App groups

Bundle apps once, like Social or Games, and reuse the group in any zone.

Cooldowns

Pausing never starts straight away, so a weak moment has time to pass.

Private by design

Nothing to sign up for. Nothing to leak.

Slowcation has no accounts and no servers. There is nowhere for your data to go.

  • We never see your location. iOS watches your zones on your device. Slowcation has no server to send anything to.
  • We can't see your apps. Apple's Screen Time hands Slowcation anonymous tokens, not app names or usage.
  • No analytics, no ads, no tracking. There is no third-party code in the app at all.
